ECO Foundation, a non-profit socio-economic and environmental development organization (https://ecofoundationbd.org/) is going to organize an Essay Competition on the occasion of World Environment Day i.e., 5th June 2023 and World Oceans Day i.e., 8 June 2023. Needless to mention, World Environment Day and World Oceans Day take place every year on 5 June and 8 June, respectively.
World Environment Day promotes awareness and action for the environment. This year marks the 50th anniversary of World Environment Day, after it was established by the United Nations General Assembly in 1972. Over the past five decades, the day has grown to be one of the largest global platforms for environmental outreach. Tens of millions of people participate online and through in-person activities, events and actions around the world. This year’s World Environment Day slogan is #BeatPlasticPollution and with the theme Solutions to Plastic Pollution.
World Oceans Day was first proposed in 1992 at the Earth Summit in Rio de Janeiro as a way to celebrate world’s shared ocean and personal connection to the sea, as well as to raise awareness about the crucial role of the ocean plays in our lives and the important ways how people can help to protect it. World Oceans Day raise global awareness of the benefits derived from the oceans and the current challenges faced by the international community in connection with the oceans and to emphasize individual and collective duty to interact with oceans in a sustainable manner so as to meet current needs without compromising those of future generations. This year’s World Oceans Day theme is ‘Planet Ocean: Tides are Changing’.
In the above context, ECO Foundation is going to arrange an essay competition to make our students aware about the environment and ocean. The interested participants can submit their essay on any one of the topics mentioned below:
Topic 1: ‘Key problems and Solutions to plastic pollution: Bangladesh Perspective’
Topic 2: ‘Roles and Responsibilities of youth while conservation of coastal and marine biodiversity in Bangladesh’
Guidelines for participants:
- Eligibility: Essay writing competition is open for all the full-time graduate and post-graduate students of Bangladeshi institutions/universities.
- Word Limit: The word limit for essay submission will be 2500 excluding references (if any).
- Font, Size & Line Spacing: The essay should be typed in English language on an A4 size electronic page MS Word (Font: Calibri, Body), Font size: 11, Line Spacing: 1.15).
- Cover Page of the Essay: The Essay should be preceded by a cover page mentioning a) full name of the participant, b) program/course, c) name of the College/University/Institute with session, d) complete mailing address with post code, e) contact number, f) active email ID on the top of the essay.
- Participant’s College/University ID: Scan copy of valid student identity card (with clear image in A4 size paper) issued by the participant’s institute authority should also be included on the front page of the submission.
- Criteria for Essay Evaluation: Content, Originality, Local solutions for a global problem, Clarity and Structure.
- Originality: The essays in original will be considered for the competition. Any form of plagiarism in the composition of the essay will be considered as disqualification of the participant.
- Copyright: The copyright will remain with the authors, and they are free to re-use their own material.
- Submission Procedure: The essay has to be submitted as a single MS-Word attachment file and e-mailed to info@ecofoundationbd.org with the subject line ‘ECO Foundation Environment Day Essay Submission 2023’.
- Prize: Winners will receive cash prizes as per the following table:

11. Certificate and other: The prize winners shall also be given a certificate and complimentary student membership of ECO Foundation for one year. Only the best essay of each topic will be published on the ECO Foundation website along with the participant’s photograph.

13. ECO Foundation management conserves the right to cancel, postpone and reschedule the competition.

বিশ্ব পরিবেশ দিবস (৫ জুন ২০২৩) ও বিশ্ব সমুদ্র দিবস (৮ জুন ২০২৩) উপলক্ষে রচনা প্রতিযোগিতা ইকো ফাউনন্ডেশন (https://ecofoundationbd.org/) একটি আর্থ-সামাজিক এবং পরিবেশ উন্নয়ন বিষয়ক অলাভজনক প্রতিষ্ঠান। দেশের আর্থ-সামাজিক ও পরিবেশ উন্নয়ন এবং সমুদ্র সম্পদ রক্ষার লক্ষ্যে জনসচেতনতামূলক কর্মকান্ড পরিচালনার উদ্দেশ্যে এই প্রতিষ্ঠানটি গঠিত হয়েছে। উল্লেখ্য যে, সারা বিশ্বব্যাপী আগামী ৫ জুন ২০২৩ ইং ‘বিশ্ব পরিবেশ দিবস’ ও ৮ জুন ২০২৩ ইং ‘বিশ্ব সমুদ্র দিবস’ উদ্যাপিত হবে। উক্ত দুটি দিবস উদ্যাপনের অংশ হিসাবে ইকো ফাউনন্ডেশন কর্তৃক দুটি ভিন্ন বিষয়ের উপর রচনা প্রতিযোগিতা আয়োজন করা হবে।
বিশ্ব পরিবেশ দিবসে পরিবেশের বিভিন্ন বিষয়ের উপর সচেতনতামূলক কার্যক্রম বাস্তবায়ন করা হয়ে থাকে। জাতিসংঘের সাধারণ পরিষদ কর্তৃক ১৯৭২ সালে প্রথম এই দিবস পালনের পর থেকে এবছর ৫০তম বিশ্ব পরিবেশ দিবস পালিত হবে। বিগত পাঁচ দশকে বিশ্বব্যাপী পরিবেশ বিষয়ক প্রচার প্রচারণায় দিবসটি সর্বাধিক গুরুত্ব পেয়েছে। অনলাইনে কিংবা সরাসরি বিভিন্ন কার্যক্রম বাস্তবায়নের মাধ্যমে বিশ্বব্যাপী দশ মিলিয়নেরও অধিক লোক এ কার্যক্রমে অংশগ্রহণ করে থাকে। UNEP কর্তৃক ২০২৩ সালের জন্য নির্ধারিত এ দিবসটির মূল প্রতিপাদ্য বিষয় হচ্ছে, ‘Solutions to Plastic Pollution’. এবং শ্লোগান হচ্ছে, ‘Beat Plastic Pollution’. সেই অনুসরণে বাংলাদেশ সরকার কর্তৃক চূড়ান্তকৃত এ দিবসের প্রতিপাদ্য বিষয় হচ্ছে, ‘প্লাষ্টিক দূষণের সমাধানে সামিল হই সকলে’ এবং শ্লোগান হচ্ছে, ‘সবাই মিলে করি পণ, বন্ধ হবে প্লাষ্টিক দূষণ’।
ব্রাজিলের রিও ডি জেনিরোতে ১৯৯২ সালে অনুষ্ঠিত বিশ্ব ধরিত্রী সন্মেলনে প্রতি বছর ৮ জুন বিশ্ব সমুদ্র দিবস পালনের সিদ্ধান্ত গৃহীত হয় এবং সেই বছরই প্রথম দিবসটি পালিত হয়। এরপর ২০০৮ সালে জাতিসংঘ বিশ্ব সমুদ্র দিবস পালনের বিষয়টিকে আনুষ্ঠানিকভাবে স্বীকৃতি দেয়। অংশীদারিত্বের ভিত্তিতে এবং সহনশীল পর্যায়ে সমুদ্র সম্পদের ব্যবহার, আমাদের জীবনে সমুদ্রের গুরুত্বপূর্ণ ভূমিকা এবং কিভাবে এই সম্পদকে সংরক্ষণ করা যায় সেই সম্পর্কে সবাইকে সচেতন করাই এই দিবস পালনের মূল উদ্দেশ্য। ২০২৩ সালে এ দিবসটির মূল প্রতিপাদ্য বিষয় হচ্ছে, ‘Planet Ocean: Tides are Changing’.
উপরিল্লিখিত প্রেক্ষাপটে শিক্ষার্থীদেরকে আমাদের পরিবেশ ও সমুদ্র সম্পর্কে সচেতন করার লক্ষ্যে ইকো ফাউনন্ডেশন কর্তৃক নিম্নলিখিত দুটি বিষয়ের উপর রচনা প্রতিযোগিতা আয়োজনের সিদ্ধান্ত নেয়া হয়েছে। কলেজ এবং বিশ্ববিদ্যালয় পর্যায়ে আগ্রহী শিক্ষার্থীরা দু’টি বিষয়ের যে কোন একটির উপর প্রতিযোগিতায় অংশগ্রহণ করতে পারবে।

অংশগ্রহকারীদের জন্য নির্দেশনা
- [১] অংশগ্রহণের যোগ্যতাঃ বাংলাদেশের যে কোন শিক্ষা প্রতিষ্ঠানের সার্বক্ষণিকভাবে অধ্যয়নরত গ্রাজুয়েট ও পোষ্ট-গ্রাজুয়েট শিক্ষার্থীরা রচনা প্রতিযোগিতায় অংশগ্রহণ করতে পারবে।
- [২] শব্দ সীমাবদ্ধতাঃ রেফারেন্স (যদি থাকে) ব্যতীত প্রত্যেকটি রচনা ২৫০০ শব্দের মধ্যে সীমাবদ্ধ থাকতে হবে।
- [৩] ভাষা, ফণ্টের রকম ও সাইজ এবং লাইনের ব্যবধানঃ রচনা ইংরেজী ভাষায় এ৪ সাইজ কাগজে এম এস ওয়ার্ড প্রোগ্রামে (ফণ্টঃ ক্যলিব্রি, বডি এবং সাইজঃ ১১) ১.১৫ লাইন ব্যবধানে টাইপ করা হতে হবে।
- [৪] কভার পাতাঃ প্রত্যেকটি রচনায় একটি কভার পাতা থাকবে। উক্ত পাতায় অংগ্রহণকারীর পূর্ণ নাম, প্রোগ্রাম/কোর্স, সেশনসহ শিক্ষা প্রতিষ্ঠানের নাম, পোষ্ট কোডসহ মেইল ঠিকানা, মোবাইল নং, সক্রিয় ইমেইল ঠিকানা উল্লেখ করতে হবে।
- [৫] অংশগ্রহণকারীর আইডিঃ এ৪ সাইজ কাগজে স্ব স্ব শিক্ষা প্রতিষ্ঠান কর্তৃপক্ষ কর্তৃক প্রদত্ত আইডি কার্ডের স্বচ্ছ স্ক্যান কপি কভার পাতার পরের পাতা হিসাবে সংযোজন করতে হবে।
- [৬] রচনা মূল্যায়নের মানদন্ডঃ বিষয়বস্তু, মৌলিকত্ব, সমস্যাসমূহের স্থানীয় সমাধান, স্পষ্টতা এবং গঠন রচনা মূল্যায়নের মানদ- হিসাবে বিবেচিত হবে।
- [৭] মৌলিকত্বঃ প্রতিযোগিতার জন্য রচনার বিষয়বস্তু অবশ্যই মৌলিক হতে হবে। রেফারেন্স ব্যতীত অন্য কোন লেখকের লেখা সরাসরি কপি করা হয়েছে মর্মে পরিলক্ষিত হলে উক্ত রচনা সরাসরি বাতিল বলে গণ্য হবে।
- [৮] গ্রন্থস্বত্বঃ লেখকের অনুকুলে প্রন্থস্বত্ব সংরক্ষিত থাকবে। লেখক ইচ্ছা করলে জমাকৃত রচনা পুনঃ ব্যবহার করতে পারবে।
- [৯] রচনা জমা পদ্ধতিঃ ফাউনন্ডেশনের নিজস্ব ইমেইলে (info@ecofoundationbd.org) বিষয়বস্তু হিসাবে ‘ECO Foundation Environment Day Essay Submission 2023’ উল্লেখপূর্বক এমএস ওয়ার্ড এটাচমেণ্ট ফাইল হিসাবে রচনা জমা দিতে হবে।
- [১০] পুরস্কারঃ বিজয়ী অংশগ্রহণকারীদেরকে পুরস্কার হিসাবে নিম্নলিখিত হারে অর্থ প্রদান করা হবেঃ

- [১২] জমা দেয়ার শেষ সময়ঃ ০৮ জুন ২০২৩, বিএসটি ২৩:৫৯:৫৯।
- [১৩] ইকো ফাউনন্ডেশন কর্তৃপক্ষ উক্ত প্রতিযোগিতা বাতিল, স্থগিত কিংবা সময়সূচী পরিবর্তনের সকল অধিকার সংরক্ষণ করবে।
- [১৪] প্রাথমিক বাছাইয়ে জমাকৃত রচনা বাদ পড়া এড়ানোর জন্য [১] হতে [১৩] নং অনুচ্ছেদে উদ্ধৃত বিষয়সমূহ যথাযথভাবে অনুসরণ করার জন্য অনুরোধ জানানো হলো।
